Penorwic Model Railway, 009
Penorwic was originally built by Chris Phillimore from Chard in Somerset, between 2015-19 over which time he kelp a Facebook blog as a record of its construction , which remains an invaluable source of inspiration and historic reference (including construction of the Quarry Incline and winding house). The layout was a popular and much loved regular on the South West England exhibition circuit – in particular, its working incline and winding house – up to its ‘retirement’ in 2019.
Over 2022-24, under new ownership of Craig Owen, ‘Penorwic’ has been developed a little further and rewired, and is gradually acquiring ‘Gilfach Ddu’ (Llanberis Lakeside) and Ffestiniog / Welsh Highland flavoured extensions. From Early 2025 the Quarry made its first exhibition outings, appropriately to the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway Gala.
Info for Exhibition Organisers: as per details on ‘Artists Valley Page’. Dimensions of Penorwic are 8’x2′, and it is operated from the front LH side so requires clear space to move around the layout, preferably wth a table just behind to manage stock.
