Craig has been building and running the Wye Valley Garden Railway since 2020. It is a deceptively simple double-track ‘dumbell’ (or ‘dog bone’ shaped) circuit, with a central 4-track mainline ‘racing section’ with sweeping double track loops at either end – one under the house, the other in a deeply forested setting, providing a wonderful and varied environment in which to enjoy full length model expresses running a scale 4-5 miles of journey. Set into a knobbly hillside between the driveway and lawn, from ‘above’ the railway enjoys the spectacular backdrop of the ‘real life’ valley of the River Wye – hence the name.
And for a fun fact… the garden railway overlooks the trackbed of a long-closed ‘real railway’ route, so can tenuously claim to have brought trains back into operation on the former Hereford, Ross & Gloucester line!
