The ‘Great British Model Railway Museum’ online
The Great British Model Railway Museum Online is a showcase for the model collection of Craig Owen, a lifelong collector based in South Wales and Herefordshire. The collection has grown to represent most classes of locomotive operational in Britain from the early 1900s to the present day, across most of the eras and livery variations that make British railway history so colourful: from the rich pre-grouping liveries up to 1923, through the famous ‘Big 4’ companies of the GWR, LMS, LNER and Southern from 1923-48; the nationalised years of British Railways, 1948-68, and its ‘corporate blue’ era to 1992; and finally, the post-privatisation ‘modern era’ to the present day, including the worlds of preservation, and Narrow Gauge railways.

Whilst the ambition over coming years is to bring the collection to public display – as an inspiring educational resource and visitor attraction in its own right – for now, this website is being developed as a ‘Virtual Museum’, enabling online visitors to explore the collections, and Britain’s many fascinating locomoties and trains, through photos, video, and useful links.
“the ambition over coming years is to bring the collection to public display… but for now this website hopes to offer a ‘Virtual Museum’ which we hope you’ll enjoy exploring.”
Craig is in the process of registering the GBMRM formally, and would welcome volunteer help from indivuiduals with relevant skills and knowledge to help develop the web content. Watch this space for further developments!
